2007 Chili Dump On The Bay |
| Unity
of Friends
First of all, you might be asking yourself, what is a chili dump. Well, it's when the Unity of Friends pull out their homemade chili recipes and each volunteer makes a batch of chili. Next they "dump" it all together to make one tantilizing bowl of a spicy goodness that's guaranteed to warm you up as you enjoy the events on the frozen tundra. A Little History: The Unity of Friends started in Suamico in 2004 when Debbie Pamperin from Pamps Outboard was selected to ride in the Polaris WOW (Way Out Women) program. She rode 700 miles with 2 other women from Wisconsin on a snowmobile to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Debbie asked her friends for their support and they took it to the extreme creating the first annual Chili Dump. She raised $3500.00 with the successful teamwork of the "Unity of Friends". It is a group of kind hearted people uniting together for a very worth while cause. In 2005 Karen Goddard, a nurse at St. Vincent's Hospital took over the project in honor of her mother who did not win her battle with breast cancer in September of 2004. Karen raised $5000.00 for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation by entering in the 3 Day Walk which included 60 long miles. With the increase of breast cancer in our own community, in 2006 Carolyn Bartoletti, owner of gbFREELANCE and a Weight Management Coach, donated $4700.00 to the Breast Cancer Family Foundation, a local non-profit organization that services Northeastern Wisconsin. Carolyn believes that this organization can make a huge difference in our community by teaching middle and high school students healthy lifestyle choices that can ultimately reduce the risks of cancer. © Copyright 2004 gbFREELANCE.
